ACC appeals to suspend former DIG Mizan's bail
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed an appeal for bail suspension of sacked Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mizanur Rahman, who was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a graft case.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told BSS today that the petition was filed in the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
On February 23, Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 sentenced Rahman to three years imprisonment and eight years to suspend ACC director Khandaker Enamul Bachir in a graft case.
However, Rahman was acquitted in a money laundering case.
On April 4, Rahman filed an appeal in the High Court against the lower court's verdict. The High Court on April 8 accepted the appeal and Rahman was granted two months bail by the High Court on April 13.
According to the case, both the officials were suspended from their respective agencies after the allegations of taking and giving bribes were lodged against them.
The anti-graft body on July 16, 2019, filed the case with its Dhaka district coordination office-1 under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
ACC Director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafilya on January 19, 2020, filed the charge-sheet against the duo for allegedly leaking information and taking bribes, reports BSS.
