GK Shamim, his 7 bodyguards get life terms in arms case

A court in Dhaka has sentenced SM Golam Kibria Shamim, popularly known as GK Shamim, and his seven bodyguards to life imprisonment in an arms case.
Dhaka’s Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam delivered the verdict on Sunday (September 25).
The other convicts are: Md Delwar Hossain, Md Murad Hossain, Md Jahidul Islam, Md Shahidul Islam, Md Kamal Hossain, Md Samsad Hossain and Md Aminul Islam.
On January 28, 2020, the same court framed charges against Shamim and seven others.
RAB Sub-Inspector Shekhor Chandra Mollick, investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet on October 27, 2019.
GK Shamim, who was known as an influential contractor of Sabujbagh, Basabo and Motijheel areas of the capital, was arrested on September 20, 2019.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members seized illegal firearms and Fixed Deposit Receipts worth Tk 1.65 billion, Tk 18.0 million in cash and foreign currencies from his house and office at Niketan.
