Panchagarh, March 13 --A court in Panchagarh on Monday sentenced a man to death for killing his daughter in 2019.

The condemned convict is Nazimul Haque, son of Joynul Haque, of Shingroad Purba Jaydhardangha village under Sadar upazila of the district.

Panchagarh Additional District & Sessions Court Judge Anisur Rahman delivered the judgment in presence of the convict.

According to the case statement, Nazimul stabbed his wife Rashida Begum and three daughters on April 1, 2019, over a family quarrel.  He absconded immediately leaving them critically injured.

Neighbors rescued the injured and took them to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital where doctors declared 6-month-old Ratna dead on arrival.

Later, a case was filed following a complaint lodged by Rashidul Islam, the convict's father-in-law, with the concerned police station, accusing three people.

Police submitted a charge sheet against the accused on October 31, 2020.
