Arav Khan sued under Arms Act

A Dhaka tribunal today completed recording statement of all prosecution witnesses, including the Investigation Officer of an arms case filed against Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan.

Judge Murshid Ahammad of the Special Tribunal-14 of Dhaka recorded the depositions of Investigation Officer Sheikh Hasan Muhammad Mostafa Sarwar, a Sub-Inspector of the Detective Branch of police in the Arms Case.

Later, the court fixed April 13 for submissions of arguments in the case. Earlier, the tribunal recorded the depositions of nine other prosecution witnesses, including the complainant of the case.

Arav Khan is also an accused in a case filed in connection with the murder of a police Inspector in 2018.

According to the case statement, Arav Khan went to the residence of his father-in-law Sekendar Ali at Moghbazar on January 28, 2015 to collect money at gunpoint. But Arav Khan was arrested from in front of the house by Ramna Model Police Station police. Police also recovered a revolver from his possession.

Later, a case was filed against him under the Arms Act with Ramna Model Police Station.

After investigation, DB police pressed charges against him on March 1 the same year. The tribunal framed charges against him on May 10.

Arav Khan secured bail from the higher court on March 14 of 2018 and went into hiding. The tribunal declared him 'fugitive' in the case and issued arrest warrant against him on October 24 the same year.

Arav Khan, who runs a jewellery store in Dubai, is facing an interpol red alert at present. - Special Correspondent
