Tamim Iqbal elected BCB president

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was elected president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today after securing a commanding victory in the board directors' election at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.


Tamim, who had been leading the BCB's ad hoc committee for the past two months, first earned a place on the board by topping the poll in the Dhaka clubs category. He received the highest number of votes among all candidates before being elected president unopposed as the lone nominee for the top post.

With his appointment, Tamim becomes the 18th president and the sixth elected president in the history of the BCB. Fahim Sinha was named vice-president.

A total of 16 candidates contested the Category-2 election representing Dhaka-based clubs, with 12 securing director positions. Tamim led the standings with 73 votes, while Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khasru finished joint second with 72 votes each. Masuduzzaman received 70 votes and Yasir Mohammad Faisal Ashiq secured 68.

The other successful candidates from the category were Fahim Sinha, Asif Rabbani, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Rafiqul Islam Babu, Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim, Shahnian Tanim and Shafiq Ahmed Salam.

The unsuccessful candidates were Borhanul Pappu, Amjad Hossain, Fayazur Rahman Mitu and Major Imroz Ahmed (retd).

The newly constituted 25-member BCB board comprises 10 representatives from divisional and district cricket associations (Category-1), 12 representatives from Dhaka-based clubs (Category-2), and one representative from Category-3.
