Miraz unfazed by Pakistan's domination on start-stop day
DHAKA - Bangladesh are not fazed by the domination of Pakistan, who survived a tricky session just before the lunch session to reach a healthy 161-2 on day one of the second and final Test, curtailed by rain and bad light.
The entire last session in fact was lost to bad light, denying Bangladesh to make a comeback in the match as Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Azhar Ali put on 91 runs for the third wicket after their side was reduced to 70-2.
"It would have been better had we took two more wickets, using the weather which was overcast but there is nothing to be disappointed. Still there is lot of game," said Bangladesh's offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Left-arm spinner Taijul bowled brilliantly in the morning session to put Bangladesh on top when the visitors seemingly headed towards a big score.
Openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique brought up 50-run partnership in the first hour as the captain Babar Azam elected to bat first after winning the toss.
Abid Ali struck the first three boundaries of the day to give the side a swift start and Shafique joined him in accelerating the scoreboard, hitting Taijul a big six.
But Taijul came back strongly as he broke 59-run partnership, denying the pair's third century opening stand.
His straight delivery rattled the stump of Shaifque on 25, brining Bangladesh back into the contention.
But the big scalp was Abid Ali who showed a steely resolve in the crease to make the bowling disarray.
Following his 133 and 91 in the first Test, Abid Ali looked all set for another big score but fell for 39 as Taijul again struck with a straight delivery that didn't turn much as he expected.
"Taijul has been in good form and bowled really well in this match too. There was Shakib Al Hasan who created pressure, bowling tight from the other end. But unfortunately I couldn't create pressure in the second innings. If I could create pressure, it would have resulted in taking wickets," Miraz added.BSS
