Former Bangladesh captain Faruque Ahmed has been appointed as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following the resignation of Nazmul Hasan, who fled the country after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in a popular uprising.

The BCB's media department confirmed Faruque's appointment.
Faruque, who previously served as the BCB's chief selector before resigning over undisclosed differences, will now lead the board.
With Faruque's appointment, Nazmul’s long and somewhat controversial tenure as BCB president comes to an end, reports UNB.
Nazmul’s third term was set to end in October 2024, with elections scheduled thereafter, according to the BCB constitution. However, recent political changes in the country have accelerated his departure and may lead to further shifts in the coming days.
Faruque was first made a director of the BCB by the National Sports Council (NSC), before being elected as president by the board.
In addition to Faruque, prominent cricket coach Nazmul Abedeen Fahim has also been appointed as a BCB director. It remains unclear what other roles he might take on within the board.
Significant changes in key BCB positions are expected, with Jalal Yunus, the head of BCB's operations department, already resigning. Jalal, along with Ahmed Sazzadul Alam—who has now been suspended by the NSC—was an appointee under the previous board.
During Nazmul’s leadership, Bangladesh cricket experienced many ups and downs, with the biggest challenge being his inability to establish a sustainable solution for the domestic cricket structure.
Under Faruque’s leadership, the new board’s primary task will be to develop creative solutions for domestic cricket issues and set future goals for the national team.
