A man was beaten to death allegedly by his rivals over a land dispute in Chutipur Paschimpara village of Manda upazila in Naogaon district on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Hamid, 65, of the village.

Khorshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Manda Police Station, said Abdul Hamid and his neighbour, Haider Ali Shah, had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.

On Sunday morning, Haider Ali, along with his associates, went to the disputed land to cultivate it.

At one stage, Hamid arrived at the spot and tried to prevent them from cultivating the land.

Being resisted, Haider and his associates beat Hamid mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Naogaon 250-bed General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Police arrested four people—Haider Ali, 62, Apel Mahmud, 25, Alefa Bibi, 50, and Abdul Matin, 40—in connection with their alleged involvement in the killing, reports UNB.
