A college student was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals over previous enmity at Borobhag Eastpara village in Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur on Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Sumon Sheikh, a third-year student of MA Khalek Degree College and son of Alauddin Sheikh of the village.

Fakir Taijur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Alfadanga Police Station, said there had been longstanding enmity between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy.

On Friday, Hossain Sheikh, son of former UP member Kuddus Sheikh, allegedly waylaid Sumon in front of the house of Ukil Sheikh around 6 pm while he was passing through the area on a motorcycle.

At one stage, Hossain and his supporters allegedly attacked Sumon with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

He was first taken to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

A tense situation has been prevailing in the area following the incident.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert any further trouble, reports UNB.
