A man was killed following a dispute over mango harvesting in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi on Saturday evening.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzak, 45, son of Bhugor Mondol of Hariharpara village under Mougachi union.

According to locals, a dispute had been ongoing between two groups over the harvesting of mangoes. On Saturday, a young man named Russel, son of Nomer Ali, allegedly harvested mangoes from Abdur Razzak's orchard and sold them in the local market.

When Abdur Razzak questioned Russel over the matter, an altercation broke out.

Locals alleged that Mokbul Hossain, 52, son of late Nur Mohammad, his son Shahin Alam, 30, and several others, taking advantage of a previous enmity, became involved in the argument.

The confrontation soon turned violent, during which Abdur Razzak was allegedly punched, kicked, and struck with bricks, leaving him injured.

He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to hospital, said Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman of Mohanpur Police Station, reports UNB.

He said police visited the spot and were working to identify those involved and take legal action against them.
