Tipu murder: 2 more including alleged mastermind on remand

A Dhaka court Monday placed two accused, who were arrested recently, on two-day remand each in a case lodged over sensational murder of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Prity in the capital's Shahjahanpur area on March 24.

The two accused are- Sohel Shahriar and Maruf Reza Sagar. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and Investigation Officer and Detective Branch Inspector Mohammad Yasin Shikder pleaded to place them on five-day remand.

Police arrested Sohel and Maruf from the capital's Motijheel area Sunday night. Tipu, former General Secretary of Motijheel Awami League, was on his microbus destined for his Khilgaon home on the night of March 24. He was shot dead by a masked assailant in the capital's Shahjahanpur traffic light signal as his vehicle got stuck there.

At the time rickshaw passenger Samia Afran Prity was shot by stray bullets and died on the spot. Tipu's driver Munna was shot on his hand in the incident.

Tipu's wife Farhana Islam Dolly filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police Station of the city. - Special Correspondent
