3 BNP leaders, an army man seriously hurt in Kalapara attack

Patuakhali: Three Union BNP leaders and an army member were victims of a terrorist attack in Kalapara of Patuakhali. The incident happened on Monday (September 2) around 1 pm in the Eatimkhana area of the city.

Dhankhali union BNP leader Md. Sohag (32) and Dhulasar Union BNP ward president Nizam Howladar (55) were referred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Another injured Dhulasar union BNP secretary Shahzada (50) and army soldier Abul Bashar (45) received first aid from private clinic. 

Eyewitnesses and local sources said that on Monday afternoon, Dhankhali union BNP leader and businessman Sohag was returning to his respective destination after meeting BNP central leader ABM Mosharraf Hossain. Meanwhile, Sohag was attacked by a group of terrorists in the culvert area adjacent to the Eatimkhana-Office mohalla. Sohag's father-in-law Union BNP’s ward president Md. Nizam Howladar, Secretary of Dhulasar Union BNP Shahzada and plain cloth army person Abul Bashar of Dhankhali Union also received injury while they were trying to save Sohag. 

According to Upazila Health Complex sources, the condition of Sohag among the injured is critical. He has multiple cut injuries on his head and Nizam Howladar has a head injury with a cut below his eye. Both of them have been referred to Barisal for better treatment. The other injured soldier had injuries on his face but did not seek medical treatment from the hospital. 

Dr. Mehdi Hasan Roni, on duty doctor of Upazila Health Complex, said that two people injured in the terrorists’ attack have been referred to Barisal for better treatment. Among them, Sohag's condition is alarming.

Upazila BNP president Haji Humayun Sikder said that such an incident happened between them for trivial reasons. The injured went to the hospital and arranged for treatment. Strict organizational measures will be taken against the party accused in this incident.
