A Brahmanbaria court convicted three individuals on Thursday and sentenced them to death for the 2019 murder of a trader.

The verdict was delivered by Brahmanbaria Additional District and Session Judge Ayesha Akter Shumi. The condemned are Kajal Mia, 49, Ripon Mia, 32, and Russel Mia, 30, all from Bancharampur upazila of the district. Russel Mia was tried in absentia.

The court also imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on each of the convicts.

According to the prosecution, the body of Saidur Rahman, a fruit trader from Baherchar village, was found on the banks of the Meghan River on September 29, 2019, a day after he went missing. Lokman Mia, Saidur's brother-in-law, filed a case with Bancharampur Police Station.

Police arrested Ripon and Kajal, who confessed under section 164, admitting they killed Saidur after failing to collect a debt of Tk 20,000 from him.
