James Goldman, the British Deputy High Commissioner and British Development Director in Bangladesh, affirmed on Friday that the UK government is committed to increasing its investment in the education of Bangladesh’s youth.

Goldman made these remarks during the inauguration of the Second IHSB Inter-School Business Carnival, held at the International Hope School Bangladesh (IHSB) in Uttara, Dhaka, from November 15 to 17.

The carnival, organized by the IHSB Business Club and supported by OkoTex, serves as a platform to promote business and entrepreneurship among students.

"The British government is dedicated to supporting education in Bangladesh," Goldman said. "Just yesterday, I visited a school for underprivileged children funded by the UK. Today, I’m here at the IHSB Business Carnival, where we are excited to invest further in the education of young people. It’s encouraging to see the partnership with Sterling Education. Collaborations like these between the UK and Bangladesh strengthen mutual ties and drive progress."

The carnival brings together over 600 students from 50 leading schools across Dhaka. Timothy Donald Fisher, CEO of Sterling Education, who also attended the event, emphasized his organization’s commitment to advancing education in Bangladesh. He highlighted initiatives like the IHSB Business Carnival, Bangla Olympiad, and STEM Fest, which aim to nurture entrepreneurial spirit and self-reliance among students, preparing them to contribute to Bangladesh’s future growth.

The event features three main competitions: Friedman’s Fallacy, where students tackle economic issues; Pitch Perfect, which challenges participants to present innovative business ideas; and Marketing Mania, a test of business acumen. Biman Bangladesh Airlines will award the best business proposal with a special gift.

In addition to the student competitions, the carnival hosts an exhibition and fair showcasing products from 20 leading business groups. Open to the public on Friday and Saturday from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, the fair will offer business advice and feature student-run stalls offering food and various items.

The closing ceremony on November 17 will include a welcome address by IHSB Principal Roksana Zarin, as well as speeches from distinguished guests such as Dilruba Tonu, Managing Director of Hi-Tech Park, and Golam Samdani Don, a prominent corporate entrepreneur and trainer. The event will conclude with a cultural performance by the popular band Shunno.
