The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), has launched a $9.65 million initiative aimed at modernizing and strengthening Bangladesh’s national statistical system.

The project, titled "Capacity Development of Statistics Service Based on Platform," seeks to integrate advanced ICT technologies to enhance BBS's ability to efficiently collect, manage, and analyze statistical data. This modernization is critical for improving the accuracy and reliability of data, which in turn will support evidence-based policymaking and informed decision-making.

According to a KOICA Bangladesh press release, the initiative will contribute significantly to the country’s development agenda, including the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the realization of the Digital Bangladesh vision.

KOICA’s Country Director in Bangladesh, Taeyoung Kim, emphasized that this project reflects South Korea’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable development in Bangladesh. “By enhancing the BBS’s capabilities, we are strengthening Bangladesh’s statistical infrastructure, which is essential for the country to meet its SDGs and fully realize its Digital Bangladesh ambitions,” Kim said.

This project is part of KOICA’s broader strategy to support Bangladesh’s development through data-driven governance, improved public service delivery, and greater transparency. It will play a key role in enhancing policymaking, accountability, and inclusivity in government operations.

KOICA’s continued support underscores its dedication to sustainable development, good governance, and economic growth in Bangladesh. The successful implementation of the project will ensure that the country’s statistical services are well-equipped to meet the evolving demands of a data-centric future, preparing Bangladesh for continued growth and development.
