Navy signs MoU with Mongla Port for Pashur Channel dredging

Dhaka, August 14: A MoU has been signed between Mongla Port Authority and Bangladesh Navy to implement the conservation dredging project in Pashur Channel of Mongla Port.

The MoU was signed today at the meeting room of the Ministry of Shipping in Dhaka. At this time, Shipping Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain was present as the chief guest.

The Shipping Advisor said that Mongla Port has been playing an important role in the national economy of the country. Dredging in Pashur Channel is a big challenge for the development of Mongla Port. Due to various constraints, it has become very difficult to implement dredging in Pashur River for the past few years. This project has been undertaken at a cost of about 16 billion taka to preserve the navigability of Pashur Channel. He said that the implementation of this project will increase the use of Mongla Port. As a result, the revenue of the port will increase. In addition, it will be possible to turn this port into a regional hub for trade and commerce. He also mentioned that uninterrupted coal transportation for the Rampal Power Plant can be done through this port.

It is worth noting that the project was approved by ECNEC on January 8, 2025. The project will be implemented by December 31, 2029.
