Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, emphasized the United Nations' call for safeguarding the right to peaceful assembly in Bangladesh. In a press briefing, Haq urged all parties to engage in dialogue and ensure that security forces protect individuals participating in peaceful protests.

The statement followed incidents where people attempting to pay tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi-32 on the 49th anniversary of his assassination faced obstacles.
Haq also highlighted upcoming discussions between the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Bangladesh's interim government chief, Muhammad Yunus. These talks will focus on the UN's potential support for the interim government, particularly concerning accountability for recent human rights violations.
A UN fact-finding mission is scheduled to visit Dhaka next week to explore support areas and investigate recent violence. Haq assured that the UN remains committed to assisting Bangladesh in ensuring human rights protections during this transitional period.
