Bangladesh to Sign Extradition Treaties with Maldives and Qatar

Bangladesh is set to sign extradition treaties with the Maldives and Qatar to facilitate the return of nationals convicted in those countries.


This decision was made during a recent meeting of the Council of Advisers in Dhaka. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated that the treaties will allow convicted Bangladeshis to serve their sentences at home.

The Council also approved a draft agreement for the transfer of prisoners with the Maldives, effective for ten years, with an option for renewal. A similar agreement with Qatar has also been endorsed. These measures aim to streamline the process for serving sentences in the respective countries of the convicted individuals.
