Newly appointed Japanese Ambassador presents credentials to President

Dhaka, January 15: President Md. Sahabuddin has urged Japan to invest more in various emerging sectors including infrastructure, automobiles, ICT in Bangladesh.

He made the call when the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Saida Shinichi, presented her credentials to the President at Bangabhaban in Dhaka today.

Welcoming the new ambassador, the President said that Japan is the single largest bilateral development partner of Bangladesh. He said that the relations between the two countries have been upgraded to a strategic partnership. At this time, the President called for further strengthening this cooperation, mentioning Japan's assistance of more than $ 23 billion in loans and grants for the development of Bangladesh under the Big B Initiative.

Expressing satisfaction with the increase in bilateral trade, Md. Sahabuddin said that more than 350 Japanese companies are currently working in Bangladesh. He urged the ambassador to take initiatives to recruit manpower from Bangladesh and increase trade and commerce.

The President appreciated Japan's role in providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas. He expressed hope that Japan would continue to cooperate in the future so that the Rohingyas could return to their country safely and with dignity.

At this time, President Md. Sahabuddin invited the King, Queen and members of the royal family of Japan to visit Bangladesh.

Referring to Japan's investment in major infrastructure sectors in Bangladesh, the ambassador said that his country is interested in investing more in various sectors of Bangladesh in the future. He sought the President's overall cooperation in carrying out his duties in Bangladesh.
