Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain called on Canada to expedite visa processing for Bangladeshi nationals, particularly students, to foster greater educational exchange. His remarks came during a meeting with newly-appointed Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Ajit Singh, who paid a courtesy call at the foreign ministry today, as stated in a press release.

The two officials held comprehensive discussions on a range of key issues, including agricultural cooperation, trade and investment opportunities, the financial sector, and the ongoing Rohingya crisis. Hossain highlighted the significant challenges Bangladesh faces in hosting approximately 1.3 million Rohingya refugees and emphasized the need for international collaboration, specifically Canada’s strong support for their safe and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.

High Commissioner Singh acknowledged these concerns and pledged Canada's full support in addressing the challenges. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the already robust bilateral relationship between the two countries, with particular focus on trade, investment, agriculture, capacity building, skill development, and enhancing people-to-people ties.

In conclusion, the Foreign Affairs Adviser assured the High Commissioner of Bangladesh's full cooperation during his tenure, underscoring the government’s commitment to deepening the Bangladesh-Canada partnership.
