Speaking at a recent event at the UN Headquarters in New York, Ambassador Chowdhury highlighted Bangladesh’s peacekeepers' contributions and urged the adoption of innovative, environmentally friendly approaches. He emphasized the importance of preserving the biodiversity of host countries and training peacekeepers to support the goals of Agenda 2030.
The event, co-hosted by Bangladesh along with the UN missions of Germany, Italy, the Republic of Korea, and Slovenia, focused on the “Environmental Impact of UN Peace Operations – From Ambition to Action.” Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, Atul Khare, and numerous delegates from UN member states were in attendance.
Moderated by Slovenia's Permanent Representative, the event aimed to raise awareness about the environmental footprint of UN peace operations and explore ways to transition to renewable energy solutions in peacekeeping efforts.
