Bangladesh and Kuwait on Tuesday held discussions on the welfare and employment of Bangladeshi migrant workers in Kuwait, with a particular emphasis on ensuring safe and secure working conditions for female workers.

The talks took place during a courtesy meeting between the newly appointed Kuwaiti Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ali Tunyan Abdul Wahab Hamadah, and Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two sides explored various mechanisms to improve safeguards for Bangladeshi expatriates, ensuring their rights and well-being.

The meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, employment, and economic collaboration. A key topic was the recent recruitment of 670 Bangladeshi nurses to Kuwait, facilitated under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last year. Both sides recognized this as a significant step in enhancing manpower cooperation and discussed further opportunities to employ Bangladeshi professionals, including medical practitioners, engineers, technicians, and IT specialists.

Foreign Adviser Hossain congratulated Ambassador Hamadah on his new role and encouraged further collaboration to unlock the full potential of the bilateral relationship. The Ambassador expressed gratitude for Bangladesh’s support and reiterated Kuwait’s desire to deepen cooperation across all sectors, particularly in trade and investment.

The Foreign Adviser pointed out that bilateral trade between the two countries has yet to reach its full potential, despite the strong relationship. He encouraged the Ambassador to engage with Bangladesh’s business community, including the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), to explore new business and trade opportunities.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to fostering bilateral cooperation, focusing on trade, workforce security, and economic partnership.
