Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin, currently in Algeria, has expressed Bangladesh's strong desire to enhance bilateral trade and economic relations with the North African nation. During his visit, Uddin outlined potential trade areas, including apparel, pharmaceuticals, industrial raw materials like LNG, metals, and electronics.

On February 3, he met with the President of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) in Algiers as part of the second Foreign Office Consultation between the two countries. The discussion focused on expanding bilateral trade and exploring new business opportunities.

Uddin emphasized that as bilateral trade grows, more engagement from both nations' business sectors could further boost economic ties. He proposed exploring joint ventures in shipbuilding, ICT, and agriculture. The ACCI President welcomed the idea and reiterated Algeria’s interest in strengthening ties with Bangladesh, particularly in the energy, construction, and agro-processing sectors.

Uddin also outlined a series of action plans, including hosting online meetings to initiate 2025 bilateral interactions, facilitating participation in international trade fairs, creating a joint business forum, and facilitating business delegation exchanges. The two sides also agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and ACCI.

The Algerian Chamber expressed support for Bangladesh’s participation in upcoming trade fairs in Algiers, including the International Trade Fair in June and the Intra-Africa Trade Fair in September 2025.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen trade relations, stimulate economic growth, and promote business connections between the two nations. Officials from both Algeria and Bangladesh, including key representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh Embassy in Algiers, attended the discussions.
