Bangladesh has lodged a formal protest with India over the activities of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her stay in India, which Dhaka considers provocative.

“We summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner, as the High Commissioner was not present, and handed over a protest note,” Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain told reporters at a briefing at the Foreign Ministry yesterday .

He noted that Dhaka had previously urged New Delhi to prevent Hasina from engaging in such activities but had received no response.

The Foreign Ministry reiterated its objections to Indian Acting Envoy Pawan Badhe today, Hossain added.

Responding to a question, the foreign affairs adviser described Hasina’s recent statements as highly aggressive, suggesting that they could offend the sentiments of the younger generation.

“We will closely monitor India’s response,” Hossain said, stressing that Bangladesh continues to urge India to ensure Hasina refrains from such activities.

Asked about reviewing previous agreements with India, Hossain stated that the deal with Adani was not in Bangladesh’s best interest.

Regarding India’s position on Hasina’s activities, he said New Delhi had claimed that it was not providing her with a platform to deliver online speeches.

In response to international media coverage, Hossain acknowledged concerns over the destruction at Dhanmondi-32 but described the incident as an outburst of public anger.

The adviser assured that the government is taking measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
