Bangladesh Seeks Stronger Power, Trade Ties with Bhutan

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has highlighted the substantial potential for deepening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Bhutan, particularly in the areas of power and trade. He emphasized that over the years, cooperation between the two countries has flourished across multiple sectors.


Ambassador Rinchen Kuentsyl of Bhutan paid a farewell visit to Adviser Hossain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, where they discussed a range of mutual interests. The meeting underscored the importance of fostering broader regional collaboration through organizations such as SAARC and BIMSTEC for the collective benefit of the region, as noted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Adviser Hossain extended his congratulations to Ambassador Kuentsyl for the successful completion of his tenure in Bangladesh and commended his active role in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

The Foreign Affairs Adviser also reflected on the longstanding, cordial relationship between Bangladesh and Bhutan, emphasizing that Bhutan was the first country to formally recognize Bangladesh. He added that Bhutan holds a special place in the hearts of Bangladeshis.

In turn, Ambassador Kuentsyl expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support and cooperation extended by the Government of Bangladesh during his time in Dhaka. He reaffirmed Bhutan’s belief in the enduring partnership with Bangladesh, stating his confidence in the continued growth of their collaboration in the future.

Concluding the meeting, Adviser Hossain wished Ambassador Kuentsyl all the best in his future diplomatic endeavors.
