Bhutan's Ambassador to Dhaka, Rinchen Kuentsyl, paid a farewell visit to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna today, reflecting on the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries.

During his four-year tenure in Dhaka, Ambassador Kuentsyl highlighted the significant progress in deepening the relationship between Bhutan and Bangladesh. He noted that both nations have actively pursued new opportunities to enhance their cooperation, with a special emphasis on economic collaboration.

One of the major developments discussed was the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Kurigram, which is exclusively dedicated to Bhutanese investors. Ambassador Kuentsyl expressed optimism about the project, which is expected to create thousands of jobs in the region and provide goods for both the Bhutanese and international markets. "We are excited about the fast progress and look forward to operationalizing the SEZ very soon," he said.

The ambassador also emphasized Bhutan's interest in establishing joint venture investments with Bangladesh to explore the vast hydropower potential in Bhutan, signaling a new frontier for collaboration in the energy sector.

In addition to economic matters, the two leaders discussed the advancement of digital infrastructure, with Bhutan moving towards a deal with Bangladesh's submarine cable company to secure an alternative internet connection from Dhaka. This collaboration aims to bolster Bhutan's connectivity and access to global digital resources.

Both sides also touched upon the growing educational exchanges between the two countries, which have become a key aspect of their evolving partnership.

Professor Yunus thanked Ambassador Kuentsyl for his dedication to enhancing bilateral relations, commending him as a "true friend" of Bangladesh. The ambassador's tenure has played a pivotal role in fostering stronger ties, particularly in trade, technology, and education, paving the way for future collaboration between the two South Asian nations.
