Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will visit China on March 26, with his trip aimed at strengthening Bangladesh-China relations, according to the Chief Adviser's Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam.

On March 27, Prof. Yunus will address the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), focusing on Asia's evolving role in the world, Alam said at a press briefing. The BFA, often referred to as the "Davos of the East," attracts top leaders from Asia and CEOs of major global companies. Prof. Yunus is also expected to meet with CEOs of several firms on the sidelines of the forum.

The highlight of the visit will be Prof. Yunus' first bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on March 28, where bilateral issues will be discussed.

Alam emphasized that Bangladesh is keen to elevate its relations with China, aiming to transform the country into a manufacturing hub. "This is considered one of the most significant visits by a Bangladeshi leader," he added. The focus will be on attracting Chinese companies to relocate their factories to Bangladesh.

The Chief Adviser had previously engaged with China's foreign minister at the UN General Assembly, seeking investment in Bangladesh's solar energy sector. Following this, two major Chinese companies, including solar giant Longi, are set to establish offices and manufacturing plants in Bangladesh.

During his visit, Prof. Yunus will also deliver a lecture at Peking University (PKU), where he will receive an honorary doctorate. Additionally, he will visit Chinese high-tech parks to explore potential collaborations.

Alam revealed that Chinese investments in Bangladesh have increased since August 5 last year, and more companies are expected to invest following Prof. Yunus' visit. Furthermore, discussions are underway with Chinese hospital chains to explore joint ventures in the healthcare sector in Bangladesh.
