Romania Backs GSP+, Visa Alternatives for Bangladesh

Romania has agreed to Bangladesh’s proposal to develop alternative mechanisms for issuing visas to Bangladeshi nationals, aiming to streamline the process and strengthen bilateral ties.

In a significant diplomatic boost, Romania also expressed its support for Bangladesh’s bid to retain GSP+ (Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus) facilities within the European Union, which are vital for sustaining trade benefits.

The agreement came during a bilateral meeting between Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain and Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Emil Hurezeanu, held on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2025. The Bangladesh Ambassador to Türkiye and other senior officials from both countries were present during the discussion.

The meeting focused on strengthening sectoral cooperation, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as agriculture, the automotive and rail industries, and investment and trade.

Both sides proposed exploring a bilateral agreement on migration and mobility to promote legal migration. The Bangladeshi delegation welcomed the idea, signaling a step toward more structured and secure workforce movement.

Bangladesh also reiterated its interest in developing partnerships in the aerospace sector, particularly with Turkey, in a bid to promote win-win cooperation across emerging industries.
