Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have discussed ways to strengthen their trade and business partnership, focusing on expanding investment and cooperation in several key sectors.

The discussions took place during a meeting in London between Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister’s Adviser Humaiun Kobir and UK Minister of State for Trade Sir Chris Bryant.

Both sides explored opportunities to boost bilateral trade, attract investment and expand economic collaboration. They also highlighted the importance of unlocking investment in Bangladesh’s blue economy, promoting the global reach of the “Made in Bangladesh” brand and safeguarding investor interests.

The talks also emphasised stronger cooperation in the education sector and greater engagement in multilateral platforms.

The two countries agreed to maintain close coordination ahead of the 14th World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference scheduled to be held in Cameroon later this month.

During the visit, the UK’s Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, Baroness Rosie Winterton, also met the Bangladeshi delegation at the Bangladesh High Commission in London. Discussions focused on potential collaboration in the aviation sector and efforts to develop Bangladesh into a regional aviation hub.

The delegation held separate meetings on expanding cooperation in aviation development and infrastructure.

Professor Dapo Akande, the UK candidate for a judge’s position at the International Court of Justice for the 2027–2036 term, also met the Bangladeshi representatives and presented his candidacy.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the existing cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom in multilateral forums and international elections. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in global legal, diplomatic and economic platforms in the coming years.
