Five More Measles-Linked Deaths Raise Toll to 758

Five more children died from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the 24 hours ending Sunday morning, raising the combined death toll to 758, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A DGHS press release said one child died of laboratory-confirmed measles, while four others died with measles-like symptoms during the reporting period.

The health authorities also recorded 969 new measles and suspected measles cases in the past 24 hours. Of them, 90 were laboratory-confirmed measles cases and 879 were children with measles-like symptoms.

During the same period, 849 children were admitted to hospitals for treatment, while 843 recovered and were discharged.

Since March 15, Bangladesh has recorded 111,480 suspected measles cases and 13,500 laboratory-confirmed infections.

A total of 94,340 patients have been hospitalised since the outbreak began, of whom 90,605 have recovered and been discharged.

The cumulative death toll has now reached 758, including 94 laboratory-confirmed measles deaths and 664 deaths among children with measles-like symptoms, according to DGHS.
