The lowest temperature of the country was recorded at 8.4 degrees Celsius in the border district Naogaon on Friday (December 23) morning.
Nazrul Islam, officer at Badalgachhi weather monitoring station, confirmed the matter.
He said the lowest temperature was recorded 8.4 degree Celsius in Naogaon at 9:00 am on Friday (December 23). Temperatures started to drop as northerly frosty winds blew in with dense fog. However, despite the thick fog, the sun is appearing as the day progresses.
He also said the weather may gradually turn lower.
Shahidul Islam, farmer of Manda upazila, said, “We are having trouble working in the field in such cold and foggy conditions. The number of farmers in the field today is much less than on other days. Besides, workers for agriculture are not available due to cold weather. People’s suffering has increased due to the cold northerly wind along with dense fog.”
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Khalid Mehedi Hasan said, “Due to the increase in the effect of cold, instructions have been given to distribute blankets among the cold people in 11 upazilas of the district. In the meantime, the upazila nirbahi officers have started distributing warm clothes.
He also said this year 490 blankets will be distributed in each union and municipality of the district.
