Four held with 75kg cannabis in Bagerhat

Four people were arrested with 75 kilograms of cannabis during a raid conducted by the Special Response Battalion (SRB-6) at a checkpoint in Mongla upazila of the district early today.


According to an SRB-6 press release issued here today, a team of the battalion's Headquarters Company conducted the drive at around 1:20am at a checkpoint on the Morelganj-Mongla road in Brahmanmath area under Chandpai Union of Mongla Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, the team set up the checkpoint and searched vehicles passing through the area. During the search, the team recovered 75 kilograms of cannabis from a passenger bus and arrested four people.

The arrested were identified as -- Md Ibrahim, 23, of Fulhata village in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat; Parvez Ahmed, 25, of Baikunthapur in Rangpur; Aminur Rahman, 32, of Belubalarhat area under Rangpur Kotwali Police Station; and Nur Amin, 28, of Baikunthapur, reports BSS.

The law enforcement team also seized the passenger bus allegedly used to transport the narcotics. The seized cannabis and the bus were taken into custody in accordance with legal procedures in the presence of witnesses, the release said.

A case under the Narcotics Control Act is being filed against the arrested persons with Mongla Police Station, it said.

The arrested individuals and the seized narcotics will subsequently be handed over to Mongla Police Station for further legal action, according to SRB-6.
