Today, BEZA and BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun addressed a press conference on the outcomes of the ‘Bangladesh-China Conference on Investment and Trade’ held in Dhaka.
Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), said new horizons in Bangladesh-China economic cooperation have opened following the visit of the largest-ever Chinese business delegation to Bangladesh.
Speaking at a press conference on the outcomes of the ‘Bangladesh-China Conference on Investment and Trade’ held in Dhaka, Ashik Mahmud described the event as a significant milestone in the growing economic partnership between the two nations.
“This delegation, comprising around 250 investors and business leaders from 143 companies—including some of China’s largest corporations—is the biggest Chinese business delegation ever to visit Bangladesh,” he said.
The conference was organised jointly by BEZA, BIDA, the Ministry of Commerce of China, and the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus attended the opening session as the chief guest, while China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao also participated.
Key topics discussed during the technical sessions included Bangladesh’s investment environment and economic zones, joint ventures in the garment and textile sectors, Chinese technology transfer in electronics and machinery industries, and investment opportunities in agriculture and food processing.
Approximately 550 business representatives from both countries engaged in detailed discussions, with Chinese investors showing strong interest in a wide range of sectors.
The conference facilitated over 100 bilateral B2B and B2G meetings, allowing entrepreneurs from Bangladesh and China to explore potential joint projects.
A highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BEZA and Power China International Group Limited to establish a Chinese Agrivoltaics Economic Zone in Matlab Uttar Upazila of Chandpur district.
