Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman today said the upcoming national elections will be held in February 2026 under the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.

"Whatever the obstacles come to run-up the polls, the people will resist it . . . This is the legitimacy of the new government through the July Uprising and the people's social contract," he told a view-exchange-meeting at Jhenaidah Diabetes Hospital premises as the chief guest today.

Referring to the people's query over the legitimacy of the incumbent interim government, the Asaduzzaman said, "Since 2009, millions of people were the victims of political attacks. Thousands of people have been disappeared, victims of extrajudicial killings. But this victory of the student-people's movement has compelled to oust the fascist Hasina government, opening the way for democratic upliftment in the country."

He added that the changed situation had given the legitimacy to the current government and the people gave this government to exercise the state-power.

Noting that various conspiracies have started to thwart the next election, he said, "We want to say boldly that the election will be held in the country February next under the leadership of Dr Muhammad Yunus."

People will vote enthusiastically as this is the social contract of the present government with the people, the Attorney General categorically added.

Jhenaidah Diabetic Association President Md Moazzem Hossain presided over the meeting.

Among others, association's General Secretary Munsi Kamal Azad Pannur, district BNP president Advocate MA Majid, association's vice-presidents Zahiduzzaman Mona, Md Akhtaruzzaman, Md Zahidul Islam spoke on the occasion, reports BSS.
