Zahedi highlighted that these jobs were distributed across several government departments, including the Public Administration Ministry, Labour and Employment Ministry, Information and Communication Technology Division, Bangladesh Public Service Commission, Youth and Sports Ministry, and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
Out of the total new positions, 2,468 were in the revenue and project sectors, while the remaining 83,809 were created within government services, Zahedi reported.
Looking ahead, the current administration has set an ambitious target of generating 500,000 government jobs over the next two years, Zahedi added.
In addition to job creation, the government has also focused on skill development. A total of 19,452 individuals received training through the Department of Youth Development, aimed at both government and private sector roles. Currently, 52,115 youth are undergoing training, with plans to train 264,080 individuals for self-employment during the fiscal year 2024-2025.
Zahedi further mentioned a specific initiative to train 2,100 individuals in Traffic Management and Social Awareness, divided into seven batches. So far, 710 participants have completed the training, with 231 successfully appointed as assistant traffic police officers.
Youth and Sports Adviser, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, also attended the press conference, lending support to the government's ongoing efforts to improve employment opportunities and skill development for the youth.
