A fire broke out in a train at Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital on Sunday night.

Talha bin Zashim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters media cell, said they received the information about the fire at 9:33pm and reached the spot at 9:46pm.

He said two units from Khilgaon Fire Station and three units from Siddik Bazar Fire Station worked to douse the blaze.

The fire was brought under control at 9:52pm, he said.

A Dhaka Railway official, seeking anonymity, said the train was in a wash pit area near Khilgaon railgate for necessary cleaning and maintenance work, including welding.

After the work, the train was returning to the station platform when the fire was noticed inside one of its coaches, the official said.

The fire is suspected to have originated from the welding work, he said, adding that the exact cause of the incident will be known after an investigation. -UNB
