Mohakhali fire under control; death toll rises to 2

A 63-year-old man died in a fire that broke out at a high-rise building in the capital's Mohakhali area on Thursday afternoon, raising the death toll to two.

The deceased was identified as Rafikul Islam, 63, son of Shafiuddin, resident of Shah Ali Bagh area of Mirpur-1 of the city, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.

Eleven firefighting units were working to douse the fire that broke out on the 13th floor of the 14-storey building, said Rafi Al Farooq, the duty officer of the control room of the Fire Service.
 
So far, the fire service rescued eight people from the building.
 
Members of the Bangladesh Army, Air Force, Navy and the BGB joined the operation to control the fire, according to the ISPR.
 
The devastating fire that broke out a high-rise building in the capital's Mohakhali area on Thursday afternoon, was brought under control around 7 pm on Thursday.

Due to the fire, traffic movement on both sides of the road from Mohakhali's Amtali to Gulshan-1 remains suspended, resulting in long tailbacks on both sides.

Apart from this, electricity connections have also been disconnected in the Mohakhali area, reports UNB.
