They are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.

Six people were burnt in a fire at a house in the Baghpara area under Siddhirganj upazila of the district last night (Wednesday).

The injured were identified as Sukhi Akhtar, 33, her daughter Sadia Akhtar, 10, sister Jannati Akhtar, 18, brother Arif Hawlader, 21, cousin Rahima Akhtar, 32, Rahima's daughter Ritu, 13.

They are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.

"Among the injured, Rahima has sustained burns over 45 percent of her body and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the institute," said resident physician Dr Tarikul Islam.

"Sukhi has 17 percent of her body burned, and Jannati Akhtar has 15 percent burns. Both are receiving treatment in the general ward," he added.

Of the remaining three, Sadia suffered 5 percent burns, Arif 3 percent and Ritu 10 percent, he said.

Rahima's husband Jahangir Hawlader said that they and Sukhi's family live in a rented house next to each other. Sukhi gave birth to a baby two weeks ago, and the family members visited her on Wednesday. A fire broke out in the residence last night.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station Abu Bakar Siddique said, "Initially, they think that the fire occurred due to the gas accumulated in the house."
