A devastating fire broke out at Auliabad Bazar in Kalihati upazila, Tangail, late last night, destroying eight shops and causing significant damage.

The fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit in one of the shops around 10 PM and rapidly spread to nearby businesses. According to Manjurul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Kalihati Fire Service Station, the blaze quickly engulfed eight shops, leading to heavy losses.

Three fire service units from Kalihati and Ghatail upazilas, along with local residents and business owners, worked together to control the flames. After two hours of intense effort, the fire was finally brought under control, preventing further spread.

Preliminary estimates suggest the financial damage from the fire could reach up to 50 lakh taka, though a more detailed assessment is ongoing. No casualties have been reported so far.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, while local leaders have called for improved safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
