Chinese authorities on Sunday issued red alerts—the highest level in the country's four-tier warning system—for flash floods and geological hazards as heavy rainfall continued to batter several regions.

The flash flood alert, jointly issued by the Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration, warned of an extremely high risk of flash floods in parts of Liaoning, Jilin and Anhui provinces from 8:00pm Sunday to 8:00pm Monday. An orange alert was also issued for several other areas.

In a separate warning, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the China Meteorological Administration issued a red alert for geological hazards, highlighting a very high risk of landslides and ground collapses in parts of Liaoning and Anhui provinces. Orange and yellow alerts remain in effect for other vulnerable regions.

Authorities have instructed local governments to strengthen real-time monitoring, issue timely public warnings and implement evacuation plans where necessary.

Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant, avoid high-risk areas and follow official safety instructions as heavy rainfall persists.
