Gaza's civil defense agency announced on Sunday that an Israeli airstrike on a residential area in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, resulted in the deaths of at least 73 Palestinians. The attack targeted what Israel described as a "Hamas terror target."

Mahmud Bassal, a spokesperson for the civil defense agency, stated, "Our crews recovered 73 martyrs and a large number of wounded from the site of the Israeli air force strike." He added that more victims may still be trapped under the rubble.

The strike, which occurred late Saturday, hit homes in a densely populated area, with Gaza’s government media confirming that among the deceased were women and children.

In response, the Israeli military challenged the casualty figures reported by Gaza officials, stating that initial assessments indicated discrepancies with their own information regarding the strike's accuracy and intended target. However, specific details about the target were not disclosed.

This airstrike is part of a broader Israeli military operation launched on October 6, aimed at dismantling Hamas capabilities in northern Gaza, which has already resulted in over 400 fatalities in the region, according to Bassal. The ongoing conflict has led to significant displacement, with tens of thousands fleeing the violence.
