The Pentagon is preparing possible plans for ground operations in Iran as the conflict enters its fifth week, according to US officials familiar with the matter.

The proposed options could include raids by Special Operations forces as well as deployments involving conventional infantry troops, reflecting growing concern in Washington over the escalating war.

It remains unclear whether President Donald Trump would authorise any such operation, as discussions continue within the administration over the next phase of US military involvement.

The United States has already stepped up its military presence in the Middle East, deploying Marines to the region and drawing up plans to send thousands of troops from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.

The reported preparations signal a possible expansion of the conflict, which has already heightened tensions across the region and raised fears of a broader military confrontation.
