UAE Ambassador Abdullah Ali Al Hamoudi and Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser of Shipping, Textiles, and Jute
During a meeting today with Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser of the Interim Government on Shipping, Textiles, and Jute, UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Ali Al Hamoudi emphasized the potential advantages of such an investment.
As a friendly nation, the UAE believes that its investment in Bangladesh, particularly in Chattogram port, could yield significant benefits. The ambassador highlighted that DP World, a Dubai-based multinational logistics company, currently manages ports in over 60 countries, bringing a wealth of experience to the table.
“We have successfully constructed the London Gateway Port and have extensive experience managing ports in South Asia, including India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka,” Al Hamoudi stated.
Welcoming the UAE’s investment proposal, Adviser Sakhawat Hossain reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to foreign investment and highlighted the strong bilateral relations in trade and commerce. “This investment could elevate our friendly ties to new heights,” he remarked.
Sakhawat also requested the UAE envoy to facilitate easier transit visas for Bangladeshi sailors, to which the ambassador responded that the matter would be taken under serious consideration.
In addition, the Adviser urged the UAE to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s jute and textiles sectors, noting the rising global demand for eco-friendly jute products. He emphasized that foreign investment in these sectors is growing steadily and encouraged the UAE to consider these lucrative options.
The meeting was attended by a five-member delegation from the UAE, including Jute and Textiles Secretary M Abdur Rauf and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Sanjoy Kumar Banik, along with other senior officials.
