Steps taken to withdraw politically motivated cases: Law Minister

“The current government is fully aware about the withdrawal of politically motivated harassment cases filed during the previous Awami League regime and has already taken effective steps in this regard,” he said while replying to a scripted question from treasury bench member Md. Monowar Hosen (Magura-1).

The Minister said the interim government had formed a committee to review such cases and based on its policy decision, no murder case was withdrawn.

He said the present government on March 5, 2026 constituted district level four-member committees, led by the deputy commissioners, to recommend withdrawal of politically motivated harassment cases.

Subsequently, on March 8, 2026, a six-member “central committee” headed by the Law Minister was formed to take final decisions based on the recommendations received from the district committees.

“The central committee is currently examining the recommendations and continuing the process of case withdrawal,” he added.

The minister further said that if any person, including Members of Parliament (MPs), applies through due process for withdrawal of politically motivated, false and harassment cases (including murder cases), the district and central committees will review those cases, reports UNB.

Necessary decisions will be taken if any case is found to have been filed for political harassment, he said.

“The government is sincerely committed to ensure relief for the victims from the politically motivated harassment cases,” said the Law Minister.
