French police detained dozens of people after violence broke out during celebrations of Paris Saint-Germain's second UEFA Champions League title on Saturday night, with authorities also reporting an attempt to storm a police station in the French capital.

Thousands of PSG supporters took to the streets after the club defeated Arsenal in a penalty shootout in the Champions League final in Budapest, Hungary.

Large crowds gathered around the iconic Arc de Triomphe and along the famous Champs-Élysées, where fans celebrated by waving flags, setting off flares and sounding car horns.

According to Paris police, around 20,000 people gathered on the Champs-Élysées as officers worked to maintain order.

Authorities said several smaller groups caused disturbances in different parts of the city. Some people vandalized shops, started fires and set vehicles ablaze. A police officer was injured during the unrest.

Police also reported that a group attempted to force its way into a police station in Paris's 8th arrondissement, but officers quickly dispersed them.

By 10 p.m. local time, 45 people had been taken into custody, the Paris police prefecture said.

The city's main ring road was briefly blocked by a crowd before police cleared the area. Authorities also reported damage to a bakery and a restaurant.

Near PSG's home ground in Paris's 16th arrondissement, police managed a crowd of about 1,000 people and removed makeshift barricades built from bicycles.

Security had already been strengthened across Paris ahead of the celebrations. Authorities remained on high alert following the club's first Champions League triumph last year, when more than 200 people were injured in Paris and over 500 arrests were made across France.

This year's celebrations again drew massive crowds, although police moved quickly to contain the disturbances as supporters marked another historic European success for PSG, reports UNB.
