ICT Sets October 4 Deadline for Jatrabari Killings Probe

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 has directed investigators to submit a probe report by October 4 in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of 17 people in Dhaka’s Jatrabari during the July Uprising.

A three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury issued the order on Sunday, instructing the investigation agency to complete its work within two months.

The order came after four accused, including former Dhaka-5 lawmaker Kazi Monirul Islam Monu, were produced before the tribunal, said Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed.

The accused were formally shown arrested in the case following their appearance. The tribunal instructed investigators to strictly follow the timeline and submit the findings by the specified date.

The other accused are former Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan, former Jatrabari thana Awami League general secretary Harunur Rashid Munna, and former Dhaka South City Corporation ward councillor Shafiqul Islam Khan.

According to the prosecution, at least 17 people were killed in Jatrabari on July 19 and 20, 2024 during the July Uprising.

Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed said preliminary investigations found possible involvement of the accused, who are currently in custody in connection with other cases.

They were brought before the tribunal under production warrants to be formally shown arrested in the case.

The tribunal had earlier ordered that the accused be produced before the court on July 22.
