Theatre unveils awardees for Munier Chy, Zakaria Awards

“Theatre” has revealed the recipients of the Munier Chowdhury Sammanona and Mohammad Zakaria Smriti Padak for the year 2023.



In commemoration of the 98th birthday of the esteemed Shahid Prof Munier Chowdhury, the renowned theatre troupe “Theatre” has revealed the recipients of the Munier Chowdhury Sammanona and Mohammad Zakaria Smriti Padak for the year 2023.

Theatre Director and Researcher Kamaluddin Nilu have been selected to receive the prestigious Munier Chowdhury Sammanona, while the Mohammad Zakaria Smriti Padak will be bestowed upon the promising young Theatre Director Bakar Bakul. The monetary value of these esteemed awards has been set at Tk50,000 and Tk25,000, respectively.

The tradition of conferring the Munier Chowdhury Sammanona and Mohammad Zakaria Smriti Padak by Theatre has been ongoing since 1989 and 1997, respectively. Each year, the awards honour an outstanding theatre personality or organization with the Munier Chowdhury Sammanona, and a young theatre activist with the Mohammad Zakaria Smriti Padak, recognizing their exceptional contributions to the Bangladeshi Theatre arena.

Theatre has consistently upheld this tradition for decades, underscoring its commitment to acknowledging and celebrating excellence within the realm of Bangladeshi Theatre. The upcoming award ceremony date is yet to be disclosed.
