Bull weighing one ton.
Patuakhali: A local farmer named Siddique Mir is demanding Tk 11 lakh and Tk 7 lakh for two bulls named Kalu and Chandu in this year's sacrificial market in Kalapara of Patuakhali. Kalu's weight will be 1 ton and Chandu's weight will be 22 maunds, he says. So Kalu and Chandu are the best at the cow market in Kuakata coast, the local people say.
In Thanjupara village of Latachali union of the upazila, visitors and buyers come to his house every day to see Kalu-Chandu, a large-bodied bull of the Shahiwal and Holistin breeds. In the meantime, farmer Siddique Mir has also announced to give a Khasi gift along with the purchase of Kalu.
Farmer Siddique Mir said, '4 years ago I started rearing Kalu with a local cow at a price of 80 thousand taka. The next year, I started nurturing Chandu, who was born with the moon on his forehead. It also gets huge. After that I took care of the two cows and kept in regular contact with the vets to keep an eye on their health. There was no shortage of care in their care, including running overhead fans all the time, bathing 2-3 times a day. Now that cow has two more kids, we all meet and listen to the family. This big bull is kept in two separate rooms and fed with fresh grass and corn meal every day. Masha Allah, they have grown up a lot. In fact, I could not imagine that it would be so big. Currently, they need about a thousand rupees of food per day. So far he said that he has spent about ten lakh taka for them.
Siddique Mir also said, I will sell Kalu and give a Khasi free with him. But nothing is free with Chandu. I started breeding as a hobby and got success today. But if I can sell it at the desired price, I am successful.
A neighbor named Alamgir Hossain said, we have never seen such a bull in this area. It has not been built in this area in the last few years. So it feels good. Many people came to see them.
Kalapara upazila wildlife officer Dr. Mohammad Shah Alam said, this bull of farmer Siddique is one of the upazila. We applaud his efforts.
We will give maximum support to those who are interested in animal husbandry following him. This year, a total of 20,982 animals have been kept ready for sacrifice in the upazila. - Gofran Biswas Palash
