Rohingyas stage demo in Cox’s Bazar camps

Rohingyas of 34 camps in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday staged a demonstration under the banner “Go Home” or “Let’s Go Home” on the occasion of World Refugee Day.

Rohingyas of 34 camps in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday staged a demonstration under the banner “Go Home” or “Let’s Go Home” on the occasion of World Refugee Day.
They have pressed home a total of 19 demands, including an end to killings at refugee camps and their repatriation to Myanmar.
The community has conducted the demonstrations in a peaceful environment with no reports of untoward events. However, the local police did not give permission to stage the demonstration as of writing.
According to sources, the demonstration will also be organized by Arakan Rohingya Society Peace for Human Rights, an organization founded by Mohib.

Additional Commissioner Samsud Douja Nayan of Cox's Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office said: "On the occasion of World Refugee Day, Rohingyas are rallying independently to demand repatriation. The demonstration is being held at 34 different locations in Ukhiya-Teknaf camps separately.”
Leaders of the several Rohingya camps of both Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas spoke about their condition and demands from the international community for the Word Refugee Day.
The 19-point demand includes — Basic rights and freedoms enjoyed by other communities and nations, naming the community "Rohingya" officially, rapid repatriation, not being associated with criminals, reclaiming properties, and more.
Kutupalong Rohingya camp leader Nur Mohammad said: “We want to return to our country safely. That's why we want to draw the attention of the international community one day ahead of World Refugee Day. "
Another Rohingya leader, Md Zubair said: "Our community wants safe and quick repatriation. That is why we have held the demonstration in 34 different camps separately.”
Meanwhile, Balukhali Rohingya camp leader Mahmud said: "There have been rallies and demonstrations in every Balukhali camp. Our only demand is, we want to return to our country, with Myanmar citizenship.”
Helal Uddin, UP member of ward-9 of Rajapalang union said: "We, too, want the Rohingya community to return to Myanmar as soon as possible. Our safety, economic and mental condition is now under threat for them. Hence international community should come forward to help us.”
