At least six people were killed and 15 others injured after a passenger bus lost control and rammed into a group of day labourers waiting for work on the Bogura-Naogaon highway early Friday.

The accident occurred around 5:30am in the Silkibandha area of Erulia, said Shafiqul Islam, an assistant sub-inspector of Bogura Sadar Police Station.

Police said the bus was travelling from Dhaka to Naogaon when it veered out of control, struck an electric pole on the right side of the highway and then crashed into the labourers gathered by the roadside.

Local residents and emergency responders rescued the injured and took them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

Doctors said several of the injured were in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
